Bessie Surtees House

About the event

Join Historic England for an exclusive tour of Bessie Surtees House with NE1’s 24 Doors of Christmas!

A fine example of Jacobean architecture, Bessie Surtees House boasts a rich history as a former merchant’s house and the site of a famous elopement between its lovestruck namesake and her paramour.

Normally closed to the public, this is a unique opportunity to explore the building’s public rooms and learn about its history. Mini tours will take place at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and the rooms will be decorated festively in the Jacobean style with a warming faux fire flickering in the fireplace – perfect for a festive photo opportunity in your favourite Christmas jumper!

This event is free but tickets must be reserved in advance. Book your tickets at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/24-doors-bessie-surtees-house-tickets-1088735239409.

If you book a ticket but are unable to make it to the event, please cancel your ticket by emailing NE1 at kitty.brown@newcastlene1ltd.com or calling 0191 235 7098 as we operate wait lists for each event to ensure people who can attend are offered the chance to.
