Assembly House
About the event
Take a tour of the magnificent and historically significant Assembly House with NE1’s 24 Doors of Christmas!
You may have walked past Assembly House’s unassuming façade on Westgate Road without realising the extravagant interior that lies behind its doors. For many years a seat of power and hub of cultural development, Assembly House was formerly the home of mayor Sir William Creagh in the late 17th century and later played host to Newcastle-born composer Charles Avison’s first public subscription concert.
Now owned by Newcastle Arts Centre, Assembly House is currently undergoing restorations to return it to its former glory. Join Newcastle Arts Centre director Mike Tilley and enjoy a rare opportunity to tour this local gem while discovering its rich history and exciting future. This marks the start of a fundraising campaign to complete the restoration of the house.
Tours last for 40 minutes and start at 11am and 1pm. Please note that Assembly House is not accessible to wheelchair users.
This event is free but tickets must be reserved in advance. Book your tickets at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/24-doors-assembly-house-tickets-1088765830909.
